Session Log
Session 1
- An army contingent under Marshal Johnston Taber arrived in town to take on the prisoner, and to form a new fortification, given the Shadovar interest in the area.
- The party set out into the forest to retrace the steps of Talrendis and find the destroyed elven village.
- They encountered Fang elves, who made references to "the Hunter" and herded them off their path.
- Raithen met Kirna Howling-Moon, and had a merry chase through the woods, resulting in a very happy ending.
- They encountered the Scar Tree, a dead great tree that once was a Fang settlement, now a zone of utter lifelessness were not even rot and decay can prosper.
- They found a stone circle, part of a great network throughout the east, and Talrendis' message was heard. A Raven priestess, by the name of Eboshi Missena, arrived to heed his call. She guided them through the Feywalk leading to another circle, this one close to the destroyed town of Leunesca.
- At the site of Leunesca, there was nothing: no trees, no elves, just a 300-ft wide circle of flat, gray earth. Magically, the zone is utterly dead, and it is painful even for a nonmagical entity to enter the area. Worse still, it is growing.
- Talrendis detached his spirit from his body, peering into the Spirit World, and saw a ghostly image of what used to be the settlement, complete with its inhabitants, surrounded by a massive spiral of life energy which funneled magic itself into a black nexus. His spirit was nearly swept up into the spindle, but he was pulled back to his physical form.
- The party camped out in a secure shelter near the site to gave Tal a chance to recuperate. During the night, a wing of Knights of the Last Sunrise arrived, heedless of the death magic of that zone, and seemed to be surveying it. Quick thinking from Chester hid the party's shelter from view, and supplied Ani with a bit of cloth from one of their cloaks to track them back to their base.
Session 2
:3 Eleint 1380 (Saturday, 2010/07/31)
- The party tracked the Shadovar to Magnar's Barrow in the Bear clan's territory, where 3 squadrons of KLS cavalry, several cult priests, 2 Disciples of Adamas, and a Thayan party under a drow warlock were encamped, with the apparent goal of infiltrating the barrow.
- They were joined by a hunting party of Fang elves, who urge them to keep their distance. As they distract the Shadovar, their druids complete a ritual to summon The Hunter, an ancient forest dragon, who proceeds to ravage the camp.
- Unfortunately, even the Hunter's might cannot stand against the organized force of the Shadovar, who rout the beast. Before they flee entirely, the party captures 2 prisoners of the Thayan.
- Shortly thereafter, the party is attacked by The Hunter, still hungry, and not too weakened by his run-in with the Shadovar. A fierce battle ensues, with the party victorious.
- The Fang elves laud them for their feat, and invite them to their village, where a great feast and much revelry ensues.
- With the morning comes a moot of druids from the Fang, Raven, and Bear tribes. They concur that the danger merits an appeal to the Ten Tribes, and they set out with the party for Relkath's Foot.
- In Relkath's Foot, the Hierophant accedes to the request and calls upon all clan chieftains to a Conclave to be held at the site of Relkath's Circle.
- In the time to spare before the Conclave, the party visits the markets of Relkath's Foot. Kirna is outfitted with fancy silk clothes.
- The Conclave is called. The leading chieftains of each clan arrive, with their entourages, filling the stone theater surrounding Relkath's Circle. The Hierophant, Ilthar Oakheart, calls the meeting to order. The party, as well as Eboshi Missena of the Raven Parliament, Chieftain Kirna Howling-Moon of the Fang, and Chieftain Ysana Tears-of-the-Moon of the Eagle clan, give their testimony to the Conclave.
- Much argument ensues, and the chieftains clearly cannot rise above their differences to agree to war. However, the Hierophant manages to postpone a final vote on the matter to require a committee of druids of each clan to investigate the matter personally.
- The committee departs, along with the party, and makes a beeline for Leunesca. They arrive, and clearly see the destruction the device has wrought. Before they can analyze too closely...
- A meteor strikes Leunesca.
Session 3
:5 Eleint 1380 (Wednesday, 2010/08/11)
- The party awakens, dazed but alive, after the meteor's impact. It caused a crater, and flattened trees for several miles in every direction. It also splattered a mass of Starmetal, which soon dug deep chasms into the ground from its unearthly heat.
- Keket, knowing the dangers of Starmetal, rushed the party to her temple to treat them in her Imaskari regeneration chambers. Druids, it seems, have superior regeneration ability and needed no such aid. The committee stayed behind to seal the land against those innocents who might encounter the Starmetal.
- In the chambers, Ani and Raithen shared a strange dream, rich with symbolism and indecipherable meaning. Dream-Keket nearly revealed an important secret about the future.
- The party hearthed to Velprintalar, care of the Lucky Loom, the Sindrathils' clothing shop. Ani stopped to get current with the latest fashions.
- They met with Regent-King Aleric and his apprentice, Samael Arcosian. They explained all that occurred, and learned much:
- That the Shadovar would likely have a much greater force at their primary target: The Firefly Tree, the largest city in the Raven lands and the home of countless souls of departed elves past.
- That they likely possess a Floating Fortress nearby, in the Shadow Plane, in which it is likely that Kara Zial is based.
- That the Orb of Stars cannot likely be used again soon, which gives them time to plan for any more meteor attacks that might occur.
- At the Silverhand Institute of Sciences and Sorcery, the party recruited the reluctant Princess Ninaren Olossyne to take her rightful place as wartime leader of the Ten Tribes.
- Back in Relkath's Foot, Ninaren's training began in earnest, as volunteers from the city and from the visiting tribes came to help recondition the old Royal Palace.
- By morning, the Conclave met to recognize Princess Ninaren, who called upon them to join her in battle. All ten tribes acceded, and the war parties began to assemble.
- Melordianix of Song descended to offer her wing and claw to Ninaren, along with her brood of 11 song dragons.
- The party journeyed to Magnar's Barrow in advance of the army, to rid it of Tyan Voth and his minor KLS contingent ere he rousts the slumbering bear god and saps his power.
Session 4
:6 Eleint 1380 (Saturday, 2010/08/14)
- The party penetrates the defenses of Magnar's Barrow. Talrendis seems possessed of strange knowledge and will to rid the tomb of interlopers.
- Tyan Voth is defeated, but escapes through a portal to his mistress, presumably in Thay.
- With the opening of Magnar's chamber, a spirit comes to life within Aglarond, undoing the early winter and ushering in an Indian Summer.
- The army falls upon The Firefly Tree, using a series of hit-and-fade attacks to lure contingents of Shadovar Knights into vulnerable positions.
- The party proceeds into the midst of the Shadovar encampment, to take down the machine directly. There, they face Gurunov Bain and his mechanical creations.
- With the help of The Hunter, they triumph over the guardians, but a massive shield blocks all attempts to take down Bain or the machine.
- Hierophant Oakheart and the senior druids conjure a massive force which hurls an entire pine tree into the shield, shattering it and critically damaging the machine. Unable to activate it, Bain makes good on his escape, flying toward the exposed balcony of his command fortress, which is now centering itself over the Firefly Tree to effect the destruction of the device...and the armies assaulting it.
- The party stows away on Bain's flying machine, confronting him in the hangar. He holds them off with a Destroyer robot, but, filled with the power and anger of Magnar, they become ten times more powerful, and after dispatching the guardian, they storm the fortress and bring it down, saving the Firefly Tree and most of Aglarond.
- In the aftermath, the dead were interred into the boggy waters around the tree, including Hierophant Oakheart. But the victory was no less sweet, with the Shadovar shown a major defeat for the first time in the entire eastern campaign.
